At the Seminar on Carbon Market Development held on 20th April, Experts say that the carbon market currently has great potential and brings many benefits to the community.
In addition, to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, the Govt. issued Decree 06/2022/NĐ-CP stipulates the roadmap for the development of the domestic carbon market.
Accordingly, in the period until the end of 2027, develop regulations on carbon credit management; develop regulations on operation of carbon credit trading floors; pilot implementation of the mechanism for exchanging and clearing carbon credits in potential areas and guiding the implementation of the mechanism for exchanging and clearing carbon credits; establish and organize pilot operation of a carbon credit exchange from 2025; implementing capacity building activities, raising awareness about carbon market development. From 2028, the organization operates an official carbon credit exchange, regulating activities to connect and exchange domestic carbon credits with regional and global carbon markets.
In order to develop Vietnam’s carbon market, experts believe that the State should soon complete the legal framework, including preferential mechanisms for investors; cost balancing factors; technical standards regulations. Solving human resource issues; revenue distribution…; as well as need the synchronous participation of ministries, localities and people.
