– A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is an instrument that certifies the bearer owns one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated from a renewable energy resource. A REC is produced when a renewable energy source generates one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity and delivers it to the grid. For example, if a wind power facility produces 5 MWh of electricity, they have five certificates to keep or sell.
– A carbon credit, also known as a carbon offset, is a permit that allows the owner to emit one ton of carbon dioxide equivalent.
– Carbon credits are generated through projects that reduce, remove, or avoid greenhouse gas emissions. For example, the electricity from a wind power plant can be consumed to offset electricity that would otherwise need to be generated by fossil fuel-based power plants, which ultimately avoid potential emissions.

– Offset your electricity carbon footprint, thus the overall emissions.
